National Youth PB Arrangements

 

Further musical ideas most welcome for any of the arrangements listed.

 

 

Dawning of the Day (Slow Air and March)

  1. One piper plays slow march.
  2. Full pipe corps plays slow march
  3. Tenors swing only on slow tune. (tenors out front?)
  4. Full band plays tune in march time.

 

PaddyÕs Leather Breeches (jig time)

  1. Full pipe corps plays 16 bars of 1st. part in deliberate slow march tempo-staccato style
  2. At Last ÔEÕ –beat four jig time beats.
  3. Full band plays four parts in jig tempo

 

Mingulay Boat Song (waltz time)

1.     Singer sings two parts of the song with accompaniment

2.     Pipers join in on last bar and play the air four times in total.

3.     The singer rejoins the pipers for the last two times through the air.

4.     Drum corps provides light accompaniment.

 

Let Erin Remember and the Minstrel Boy

  1. 2 rolls
  2. Full band at lively march tempo

 

The Sleeping Song (slow)

  1. Solo piper plays once through .
  2. Solo piper is joined by piano on bar 5.
  3. Full pipe corps play twice through with piano.

 

Drops of Brandy

  1. Drummers play 16 bars in jig time.
  2. Piper join and play tune twice.
  3. Irish dancer on stage with pipers.

 

Highland Cathedral

  1. Solo piper plays tune once.
  2. Full band picks up at last bar.
  3. Tune backed by kit drum, bass guitar and organ.
  4. Tune finishes on 1st. part –extend last two bars as per direction. .

 


 

La Boum

  1. PM counts 1,2 É
  2. Pipers count a silent 2 beats before striking in drones for two beats
  3. ÔCÕ sounds on 3rd. beat and pipers + drummers + guitar + kit drum play the tune once through.
  4. Pipers and drummers cut out at end of tune.
  5. Kit drum + bass guitar  continue for 8 bars alone.
  6. Sides and guitar rejoin for 8 more bars.
  7. Full band rejoins and plays tune once more to end.

 

Greenhills and Battle is OÕer

  1. 2 rolls
  2. March tempo –full band

 

Greenlands

  1. Guitar solo for 8 bars.
  2. Guitarist is joined by  solo piper who plays the tune once.
  3. Full band joins at end and plays the tune 3 times.
  4. Tune finishes on a final  C to A extended.

 

The Water is Wide

  1. Tin whistle/organ intro
  2. The song is sung (two verses and 2 choruses) by as many singers as we have.
  3. Pipers join in at lst bar.
  4. Pipers play the tune four times.
  5. Drummers roll crescendo-diminuendo as appropriate
  6. Tenors provide visual display.

 

Merrily Kiss the Quakers wife.

  1. Kit drum plays 16 bars.
  2. Full band joins in and plays tune 3 times through.
  3. Backed by kit drum and guitar.

 

 

The Gael (slow air,march,jig)

  1. A Solo Piper plays slow theme
  2. 2 pipers harmonize with organ on slow theme
  3. March theme joined by bongos, kit drum, side drums and guitar
  4. Pipers only play 8 bars in jig time.
  5. Drum corps with pipe corps on jig + guitar and bass + kit drum –once through
  6. Pipers play Slow theme in jig time while drummers carry on the jig rhythm
  7. All players finish with 16 bars in jig time.
  8. Irish dancer joins in on last 32 bars.
  9. Full Stop at end.

 

 

OÕNeillÕs Cavalry

  1. Drummers play full tune.
  2. Pipers join in and play tune twice through.
  3. Band switches into Minstrel Boy once through.
  4. Band plays OÕNeillÕs twice more.
  5. Full stop at end.
